Mike Swick – Two Sport Athlete

Author: Junior

UFC welterweight contender and poker pro Mike “Quick” Swick placed 10th of 2,521 at the World Series of Poker event #42 on Friday. The knockout artist outlasted poker stars such as four-time bracelet winner Amarillo Slim and I Bet You host Antonio Esfandiari, finishing just one slot short of the final table.

Despite not seeing final table action the Full Tilt-sponsored slugger finished deep in the money, converting a $1,500 entrance fee into a $34,748 payday. That’s just about what Shane Carwin will make after taxes next weekend… Not too shabby for the AKA product that’s finished 2nd his last two outings in the Octagon.

MMA fans can look to see him get back to his winning ways later this year after being sidelined with an arm injury since his last cage appearance in February.

The poker folks nearly had MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko competing in the tournament as well, but last minute disputes between M-1 and ESPN regarding co-branding halted negotiations. He’s got the poker face, if only he had the management…

Congrats to Mike on the impressive showing and best of luck with both of his flourishing careers.
