After the fall of the Last Emperor last week UFC 116′s King Kong vs Godzilla main event was set to decide the new baddest man on the planet. The opening round was all Shane Carwin, dropping heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar with knees and uppercuts and following him to the mat for a brutal barrage of ground and pound. The clock and Lesnar’s toaster-sized chin would eventually get the champ past the first round, though no one would have made a fuss had the ref ended the fight during one of the dozens of unanswered shots. After all, Brock was curling up against the fence and running like Kalib Starnes at points.
Between rounds the already unattractive Lesnar looked as if he’d lost the first stanza to a meat cleaver, which is the not-so-surprising result of being hit over 50 times by Carwin’s 5-XL gloves. Despite the beating, Lesnar looked to his corner and told them he was “good”, and even exchanged pleasantries with Carwin in the form of a wink and smile.
The second round began and Carwin’s “heavy hands” were just that, heavy. It seemed as if the 270 lb. ball of muscle had punched himself out as the battered champ was able to drag him to the ground and work his way to dominant positions. Lesnar eventually reached full mount, a spot he’d usually use to throw 4-inch bunny shots until it left his opponent unconscious. Instead, the ex-WWE superstar slapped on an arm-triangle choke and jumped into side control, cinching off Carwin’s blood vessels and forcing him to tap.
After the match Lesnar gave some man hugs to his old WWE pals Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Rock, and Mike Goldberg… what a stellar group of fellas. The next time we see that much meathead in the audience will be when the 280 lb. baby-eater faces 8-0 contender Cain Velasquez. Velasquez is 6-0 since joining the UFC, going the distance only once in a lopsided ass-beating against French striker Cheick Kongo. I can’t wait, it’s sure to be another instant classic.

Well said! My power went out, it was horrifying. Great card and great event though!
i think shane answered questions about his cardio after round one… cant simulate that kind of action in sparring, he threw 50 punches trying to finish him!! brock has some exciting fights left in the UFC, plenty to get by before Fedor’s contract runs out with Strikeforce
