James Toney to the UFC

Author: Junior

(James Toney fight & weight-gain timeline)

In what will certainly prove to be an irresponsible decision, Dana White has signed current NABO and IBA Heavyweight champion James “Lights Out” Toney to a multi-fight UFC contract. This will be the first time a boxer with world-class accolades and spot saved in the Boxing Hall of Fame will enter the octagon.

Toney (72-6-3, 2 NC in professional boxing) was once considered atop the pound-for-pound rankings and has collected belts in the Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Cruiserweight, and Heavyweight divisions. He’s competed against legends such as Roy Jones Jr. and Evander Holyfield in a career that’s seen him fight and eat his way from 160 to 237 lbs.

There’s no doubt Toney was once one of the most feared men in the world for his abilities with the “sweet science,” but now he’s scary for his incoherent rants riddled with threats of violence and cannibalism (the ladder is assumed, not confirmed). He took a page from “How to get a job 101″ and began a public humiliation tour that would eventually force Dana White’s hand (see video below). Rumors are already beginning to swirl that a match between the Detroit brawler and MMA legend Randy Couture could be in the works… Lets keep our fingers crossed.
