National Signing Day was Tuesday, and there might not have been a bigger signing than Quarterback David Sills, from Bear County, Delaware, who committed to the Trojans. Sills, 13, is a 7th grader at Red Lion Christian Academy.

That was not a typo, David Sills really is a 13 year-old 7th grader.

If you didn’t think Lane Kiffin was a dirt-bag after he bailed on Tennessee, maybe this will change your mind. The Trojans really did offer Sills a scholarship, and Sills really did make a verbal commitment to play there.

I’m no talent scout, but how in the hell can you evaluate a quarterback’s talent when he’s only 13?! What if the kid stops growing, is USC going to honor their commitment then? What if the kid sucks in high school? What if he falls in love with some 8th grader and she convinces him to quit football to join the drama club?

This could be the sign of the Apocalypse when major schools like USC are offering scholarships to 13 year-old, pre-pubescent football players. Unbelievable. The kid hasn’t even got his first pimple yet and he’s already a quarterback at USC!

Does anybody remember Todd Marinovich?

(Things ain’t been the same since ol’ Phil and Peyton left!)

The Vols haven’t had a good week since Lane Kiffin bailed for Southern Cal. And, based on Tennessee’s current coaching search, things are only getting worse.

Earlier this week Texas Defensive Coordinator, Will Muschamp, the front-runner for the Tennessee job, pulled his name from consideration. The idea that a Coordinator would turn down an SEC head coaching job says a lot about Texas and even more about Tennessee. Maybe Tennessee isn’t a football powerhouse after all?

After Muschamp passed, the Vols continued down their wish list to Duke head coach, David Cutcliffe. In a shock to UT fans, Cutcliffe also withdrew his name from consideration saying, “We’ve worked very hard these two years to change the culture, to change the team physically. You feel like the job’s not done, and in this era, it bothers me, what we do as coaches, moving here and there. This is mid-January. Nothing about that felt right to me as a person.”

Duke is 9-15 over the past two seasons under Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe’s decision is bizarre considering Duke would fall into most experts ‘Top 10 Worst Places to Coach’ lists. Academic standards at Duke are off-the-charts, the program has no history, the stadium only holds 34,000 fans and Duke will forever be a basketball school. The idea that a coach would shun Rocky Top for Duke has to be kick in the balls to Vols fans everywhere. Message to Tennessee Football Fans: Duke is officially a more coveted program than UT.

Now, Tennessee is down to Louisiana Tech’s Derek Dooley and Temple’s Al Golden. Kippy Brown, in his third stint at Tennessee, is the Vols’ interim coach. Brown on Wednesday said he’s been told that he also would be considered for the permanent head-coaching job. Over the last two seasons the Vols have been 12-13 and things are only going to get worse because UT is in a doom-loop of epic proportions. The next shoe to fall is recruiting, which, after Kiffin’s departure, will be abysmal.

The next time an obnoxious Tennessee fan drones on about how great Rocky Top is, I’m going to laugh in their face, because Tennessee football is a bigger joke than Peyton Manning’s hair.

So it appears the student-body at Tennessee wasn’t too happy about Lane Kiffin’s decision to leave Knoxville for Southern Cal. Last night, on Tennessee’s campus, thousands of students rioted in reaction to Kiffin’s sudden departure as the head football coach. Just when you thought Tennessee’s reputation as a University couldn’t get any worse, this happens. The hatred for Kiffin has also gone viral. There are several Facebook pages dedicated to Kiffin’s departure. One called, “Dear Lane Kiffin, We hate you. Love, the Vols” has 17,577 members… already.

After just one, awkward season at Tennessee, Lane Kiffin is heading back to Cali. Kiffin announced tonight that he is leaving Tennessee to take Pete Carroll’s old job at USC. Kiffin has strong ties to SC where he was the offensive coordinator under Carroll, sharing responsibilities for the Trojans offense alongside Steve Sarkisian, who later left SC himself for Washington. Kiffin’s SC roots and recruiting skills made him a natural fit to take over the huge void left by Carroll.

“This was not an easy decision,” Kiffin said in a brief press conference on Tennessee’s campus. “I really believe this is the only place I would have left here to go.”

Lane will be taking his father, Mote Kiffin, along with him to SC to become the defensive coordinator. It’s also rumored that part of the deal includes getting back legendary offensive genius, Norm Chow, who is currently at UCLA, to become the offensive coordinator. Monte Kiffin working the defense, Norm Chow running the offense and Lane recruiting talent? Wow.

Loyalty is nearly dead in coaching, and that is just fine with me. FBS football is a business and coaches have to do what’s in their best interest. Obviously staying at a crippled Tennessee program and trying to compete against Urban Meyer every year can’t be too appealing. USC can out-recruit everyone in the PAC-10 and with arguably the best coaching talent in college football I don’t see the Trojans slumping at all despite pending NCAA investigations.

After a roller-coaster week Trojans fans can rejoice in Vols misery. Let’s just say it’s not a good time to be a Tennessee fan.
