Larry Bird is a legend. As a matter of fact, one of his nicknames is “Larry Legend.” Another one of his nicknames is “The Hick From French Lick” which is a reference to his hometown of French Lick, Indiana.
Larry Bird was the quintessential Indiana basketball hillbilly, shooting jumpers on the side of his barn as a kid. I don’t think there’s ever been anyone who’s done more with less athletic ability than Larry Bird. He was an awkward, 6’9″ forward with an 8″ vertical. But he was also a 12 time all-star, 3 time NBA MVP and won 3 Championships for the Boston Celtics.
Not bad for a hick from French Lick.

The guy is a total legend. Before there was Michael, there was Larry. The guy hit as many clutch shots as anyone and he had Magic to keep him from winning several more rings. Michael never had anyone nearly as good to compete against in his prime.
Couldn’t agree with you more David! Larry Legend has got lost in the shuffle with today’s youth with Magic and MJ hogging the spotlight, but if I was down 3 with 1 minute to go I’d take Bird over anybody in the history of basketball. His nickname should have been Ice-Man.
I’m glad he was in the McDonald’s Super Bowl commercial because many kids don’t know how great Larry Bird was. Cheers! (no pun intended)
