Last night before the Cavs hosted the Warriors LeBron joked with reporters about playing tight-end in the NFL. LeBron is 6'8" and 250 lbs so there's a pretty good chance he'd make a serviceable tight-end in the NFL. Here's what some of the Browns had to say…
Eric Mangini – “I think he should come on down."
Brady Quinn – “That’d be great. Tell him to suit up and let us know; we’ll get him working. Obviously he’s an incredibly talented athlete. If he wants to try to play a little bit now, we’d be more than willing to pick him up.”
Shaun Rogers – "I have mixed emotions about that,” Rogers said of James’s N.F.L. prospects. “A great athlete? Yes. A football player? No.” Rogers added: “It’s a punishing game. I just don’t think you can step off the basketball court after not going through this year in and year out and just play football. You have to weather and condition your body to take this punishment."
We have a thought too. LeBron should focus on winning basketball games and the Browns should focus on playing Detroit Sunday. Sure, it's cool to debate whether or not an athlete could cross-over into another sport a-la Bo Jackson. But when you're 1-8 and just embarrassed yourselves on national television the best answer to the question is to tell the reporter you're focused on Detroit. If you're team is 8-1 then life is good and you can joke around all you want. When you're the laughing stock of the NFL and your quarterback rating on MNF was 23.5 and your career rating is 58.0 you should shut the fuck up and live in the film room.
So, could LeBron play in the NFL? Of course. Should the Browns be entertaining fantasy questions after an abysmal loss to their arch-rival? No. Is there a chance the Brown lose to the Lions this Sunday? We wouldn't bet against it.
