There’s zero chance LeBron will stay in Cleveland past July 2010. Just ask yourself this simple question, “Why would he stay?” Professional athletes have been leaving Cleveland for decades. Braylon Edwards, CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Manny Ramirez, even Vinny Testaverde demanded a trade. There are plenty of reasons to leave and as hard as we’ve tried we honestly can’t find a reason to stay. Consider these facts:
- This will be Shaq’s last season
- If the Cavs win the championship this year he will leave on a high note
- If the Cavs lose this year he’ll have an excuse to leave
- If he was truly committed to Cleveland he would have already signed a contract extension
- One of his best friends is Jay-Z… Mr. New York
- It will put him on even-footing with his arch-nemesis Kobe Bryant
- NY vs LA regular season games will become prime-time events
- LeBron is not actually from Cleveland, he’s from Akron, which is an hour away
- He wants to be a billionaire and New York will help him achieve that goal
- New York is starving for a winning basketball team and will stop at nothing to get him
- David Stern wants a winning basketball team in New York
- “King of Cleveland” or “King of New York?”
- He likes the spotlight, fashion scene and media attention
- His legacy would be far greater by making the Knicks a winner than making the Cavs a winner

Whoa…Mental retardation on its puriest level.
Wow, more and more everyday lowly NY fans pray to the heavens(Stern) that Lebron will swoop down and save the pathetic Knickerbockers(wtf is that anyways?). Do you not understand that we can offer the most amount of money to Lebron because of the Bird rights? I know it’s hard to comprehend, and even though he stated he’s not all about the max contract(BS), LBJ also stated he wants to win. Now correct me if I am wrong…..isn’t the Knickerbockers quite possibly the worst team in the NBA? Lebron is not going to go to NY by himself and save that pathetic team, he would need 2 more superstars(like Boston did 2 years ago) and a MUCH better supporting cast to win. This theory is not very likely as the Knicks do not possess the cap space, but what’s funny is that the Cavaliers(with a very willing owner) has that with the expiring contracts of Ilgauskas, and Shaq expiring, giving them a chance to pick up a another superstar to add to the core mix of West,Williams,Powe,Varejao,Hickson,Gibson,Parker,Moon.
So tell me again, why NY will take Lebron from Cleveland, because this article made me laugh so hard…thanks.
haha almost all the guys listed above that “left” cleveland were actually traded. moron
Facts are facts. Obviously nyispathetic is from NE Ohio and the thought of LBJ leaving is too much to handle.
This is BASKETBALL buddy, not football. You can create a winning BASKETBALL team overnight with a few good players. There’s nothing in Cleveland worth staying for.
West, Williams, Powe, Varejao, Hickson, Gibson, Parker, Moon??? Are you shitting me? That’s a decent And-1 roster… not an NBA dynasty.
Start spreading the news… New York, New York!
BillyBob, they wanted to be traded, thats why they got traded. a player CANT just leave. there are prolly more “BillyBobs” in cleveland than these guys want to be arounf
Why would you ever want to leave Cleveland? This video says it all… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysmLA5TqbIY
So are all new yorkers retards or just knicks fans?
Wow, I thought when I was linked to this it was a sports blog. Not a comedy/fantasy story time. But since you freelance at humor and journalism (it wasn’t bad, may i suggest writing for the Orlando Sentinel or Miami Herald) let me give it a try as well. I did write for the the high school paper.
Your using of the overused reasons of Lebron going to take his show to New York in 2010…..and why they are all wrong.
-This will be Shaq’s last season
Hate to burst your bubble, Shaq was going to be in Cleveland for one year anyway. We all knew this, how did you miss it?
-If the Cavs win the championship this year he will leave on a high note
Thats a big if. But why not win two? Or seven?
-If the Cavs lose this year he’ll have an excuse to leave
Excuse to leave? To go where? NY? LA? This excuse to leave used by people is just hoping, he actually cares about Cleveland despite how the east coast media tries to make him out he doesn’t.
-If he was truly committed to Cleveland he would have already signed a contract extension
Why? His only chip he has to have in pocket for now and the rest of his career is the “I could leave” chip. This keeps him in control and gets him the pieces he need to win.
-One of his best friends is Jay-Z… Mr. New York
Two words, Private Plane.
It will put him on even-footing with his arch-nemesis Kobe Bryant
-Unless the move will magically put 4 NBA rings on his finger with the moment of the contract signing. That’s just not happening.
-NY vs LA regular season games will become prime-time events
Have you looked at the NBA schedule? The National TV games are Cleveland vs. ???. At last count 35 games this season. I think thats pretty good TV exposure.
-LeBron is not actually from Cleveland, he’s from Akron, which is an hour away
May I suggest google maps, Akron is 35 miles away from Cleveland. I don’t know where it takes 60 minutes to drive 35 miles, but not in Cleveland. Not even in winter.
-He wants to be a billionaire and New York will help him achieve that goal
Let’s see. Lebron soon to be age 25, est. worth 315million. (Forbes). If you do you the math. If he averages 60 million a year for 12 years, Wham Billionaire! Been doing pretty good so far, I don’t think NY can speed it up anymore. Somehow I don’t see Lebron doing “The Wiz” commercials instead of Nike.
-New York is starving for a winning basketball team and will stop at nothing to get him
There’s a big fat who gives a fuck. Maybe draft better, maybe sign better free agents, maybe don’t hire Isiah Thomas to do anything.
You can buy a World Series and a Stanley Cup. Sorry suckers, Basketball and Football have Salary Caps. See Giants for winner, maybe? Starve and live with the pain.
-David Stern wants a winning basketball team in New York
Considering he already fixes the officials to help Lebron win in Cleveland. I don’t think he will mind keeping it going for another 6 years.
-”King of Cleveland” or “King of New York?”
“King of the World” You see there’s is these modern marvels like the internet, 24 cable sports, etc. 25 years ago you needed to be on a coast to be an Icon. Not today, not tomorrow either.
-He likes the spotlight, fashion scene and media attention
Are you living on an island in the South Pacific. He has that all, already, since the age of 16.
-His legacy would be far greater by making the Knicks a winner than making the Cavs a winner
Really? Winning 4 or 5 in Cleveland wouldn’t be a greater accomplishment?
Lol you flame the cavs roster……. have you looked the the knicks roster lately? HAHAHAHAH… the article is ignorantly written, don’t fool yourselves, there is 0 chance lebron joins the knicks, and in case you didn’t know, jay-z is part owner of the nets, not the knicks…. again you’re dumb. Not one of the points you made is actually valid, its pure speculation, but then again “NY homer writing a decent article? HA!”
The best things about Cleveland are 71 S to Columbus and the departures terminal at Cleveland Hopkins Int’l… destination ANYWHERE that’s not Cleveland
absolutely the most pathetic article that i’ve ever seen.
obviously cleveland bloggers have FAR too much time on their hands. cleveland is the armpit of ohio, if not the whole country
(talking to you “M.A.”…. ur a TOTAL nerd… did u spent ur whole work break banging out a blog response…?)
Armpit I think you smell like an armpit a-hole. You are a clown dimwit. Who ever said cleveland was an armpit ideate.
To hotcarl23 Columbus isnt that much better than us here in cleveland i believe everbody is down economically. I just cant wait for us to win the whole damn thing so we can push it in all of your faces and say yea yea yea. I love my city and my teams so yea go bash me for it now but ill get the last laugh in June. Ha Ha Ha. P.S All of you that bash our teams and city you must live in Florida or California somewhere Im tired of all the Cleveland bashing BTW CLEVELAND ROCKS.
haha i’m a huge cleveland sports fan, but cleveland is miserable. and frank are u saying u want to eat me or was “ideate” supposed to be “idiot”… cause i think there would be some irony there. and possibly an example of a CLEVELAND education
I was not even talking to you if you hate it or dont live here get the H E L L out of it instead of talking about something you dont have a clue about P.S dont believe everything you here about this city every city has their downfalls.
And it was idiot i had mis spelled it was not reffering to you though but if you Native dog this city well then I was. Ill admit we have our problems were not great by any means but living anywhere beats the alternative id rather be alive and be somwhere than not. I guess you misunderstood me.
What an ignorant article! Are you kidding me? LeBron going to New York because of Jay-Z? Jay-Z has ownership in the Nets, not Knicks you idiot. Cleveland can at least win ball games. The New York Knicks struggle night in and night out because they suck and they will continue to suck for decades. I can see LeBron leaving Cleveland to go play with another star (D-Wade), but I would not consider anybody the Knicks have or could sign with the addition of LeBron a star. If LeBron is smart he will steer away from New York, as going there could be the ultimate blow to his career. Yes, he will continue to get his stats there, but his winning percentage (the thing that matters most) will go down the toilet!
haha well “frank” you were talking to me cause i’m the one that called cleveland an armpit… haha and i don’t think i misunderstood u, i think u aren’t making sense, but go cleveland! and i like ur attitude, ” Ill admit we have our problems were not great by any means but living anywhere beats the alternative id rather be alive and be somwhere than not” lol so cleveland ranks just above death…? theres a cleveland sports fan!
i agree chase but the nets are moving to NY… and in basketball you need 2 stars and a solid roster to win a championship. if ANY big market team can promise a big man and a big contract, they’re in the LBJ lottery
What a joke. Anyone close to LeBron’s situation know’s he’s not leaving Cleveland. The Cavaliers have build an empire for him, including his own personal athletic facility. LeBron knows the Cavs are run by an owner (Dan Gilbert) who will spend and do whatever it takes to continue to have one of the NBA’s premier destinations. Sorry for all of you who want to hope and dream that LeBron will leave a situation that has everything going for him and then some for a patheticially losing situation. Ain’t gonna happen, it’s known that he’ll re-up with Cleveland, he’s loyal to a fault and loves playing for his hometown. He just completed a $30M home in the Akron/Cleveland area, and also build a home for his mother nearby. He’s got all the endorsements he can handle, he’s a worldwide icon-NY offers nothing more that he can’t get by traveling wherever and whenever he wants to the bright lights. Keep dreaming if you want-this time next year he’ll be well established in his new contract with the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS.
614 native.
Being called a nerd is a compliment. At least when it comes to knowing more than the other guy. It’s more of a venting of frustration for having to live in the equivalent of sports hell. That’s right I live in South Florida. When you live in a place where I have found myself enjoying the company of U of Miami fans rather than deal with SEC morons. I guess you can call it an outlet even if it is 15 minutes at the local starbucks over a triple bucci. (thats a triple espresso with a criminal amount of sugar for those in the north)
The only thing worse than the SECites would be the fans of the Heat or worse than that the Magic. I considered myself lucky to get to wear my Cavalier bests tonight at the AAA. While all the talk today on SF media was how Lebron is now going to come to Miami next year.
I have just come to the learn to do with everyone begging for Lebron this season. Hopefully he can bring a title home this year and then sign the extension during the parade in C-town. Huge middle finger to everyone would be nice.
If you want I’ll buy you a beer at the Varsity Club on Saturday. I would love to tell you how bad it really is down here, despite the weather. My flight leaves from MIA at 9am to CBUS. I’ll be the guy in the Spielman jersey with the nice tan, sitting at the bar. Elbow deep in Jager by kickoff.
M.A.
haha i wouldnt call it knowing more than the other guy, maybe having a different (and to be fair, urs is obviously biased) opinion is the right word. and trust me, u need some head evaluation if u think being in cleveland is better than being in south florida… ur better off watching from a nice HD tv at the pool with a cocktail than in 2 feet of snow. having said that, u’ve won me over a bit haha y u coming to c-bus to watch the game at a bar though?!?! try to bring some of that 75 and sunny up with ya!!
Great read. Thanks for the info!
