Saturday night marked the end of an era as Chuck “Iceman” Liddell went limp inside the Octagon for (hopefully) the last time. The Hall of Famer stepped into the cage and brawled with ex-middleweight champ Rich “Ace” Franklin until the final seconds of round one, when he was put on his ass by a right hook. Thanks for the memories, Chuck. A SportsBore original on the Iceman’s brilliant career is in the works, stay tuned…
In the co-main event of the evening Pat Barry faced his hero and ex-Pride Grand Prix champion, Mirko Cro Cop. The kick boxers put on a three round slug fest to the delight of the crowd, embracing each other on several occasions between flurries of vicious kicks and punches. Late in the third the Croatian terrorist officer would drop Barry and follow him to the canvas for some ground-and-pound and an eventual rear naked choke victory.
