UPDATE: Just waned to apologize to everyone that watched CBS tonight on my recommendation. Horrific evening for MMA. Maybe a monopoly in MMA would be best…? More to come next week.

This Saturday Strikeforce makes their return to CBS when they head to Nashville, towing three belts and six world-class fighters along the way. All but one of the main card fighters have held or are currently holding belts in the world’s premiere martial arts promotions.

In the main event ex-UFC star and former PRIDE champ Dan Henderson will try to add another belt to his collection against current Strikeforce champ Jake Shields. Hendo was last seen knocking Michael Bisping’s head off at UFC 100 and Shields hasn’t been in the cage since hugging his way to a unanimous decision over Jason “Mayhem” Miller last November. Bookkeepers expect the belt to change waists, and seeing as Strikeforce hasn’t renewed Jake’s contract before his title defense, they probably do too.

Second fight from the top will be a Light-heavyweight championship tilt between current belt-holder Gegard Mousasi and brash up and comer King Mo, a.k.a. Muhammed Lawal. Mousasi (28-2-1) is a consensus top ten pound-for-pound fighter in the world hoping to extend his winning streak to 16 in a row over the ex-Oklahoma State wrestling phenom. This one is sure to end in explosive fashion.

The night will begin with a main event worthy bout between Strikeforce Lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez and current DREAM champion and number one ranked lightweight in the world (following BJ Penn’s loss in Abu Dhabi last weekend) Shinya Aoki. Last time Aoki competed he snapped his opponents arm for the win and then flicked him off while he rolled on the mat in agony. What a guy.

All in all it’s an entertaining night of free fights showcasing some of the top fighters in the world, but please Strikeforce, next time you’re on network tv try putting your biggest star on the card…
