WTF of the Week

Author: Junior

Florida state library

The Florida State football program has been in a bit of a transition stage of late, and Bowden may have jumped ship (or gotten shoved overboard) just in time. Yesterday morning ESPN aired an episode of “Outside The Lines” which featured a segment on Florida State’s questionable academic standards for athletes. The segment suggested some of the athletes had IQs that could be considered, “in the level of mental retardation.”

Fred Rouse, a former wide receiver for the Noles’, had an English class with Antonio Cromartie, a star cornerback for the San Diego Chargers. He shared his experience observing the pro bowler with “Outside The Lines”:

“I heard him read one time and I promise you he probably read a word every two minutes. And that right there, you know, the class laughed and you know everybody would make… some jokes out of that, but I don’t think that’s funny.”

Cromartie was recently fined $2,500 (Bud Adams got a deal a few decimal places over) by the NFL for a “tweet” he left about the quality of food the Chargers were provided, so he can’t be that illiterate:

“Man we have 2 have the most nasty food of any team. Damn can we upgrade 4 str8 years the same ish maybe that’s y we can’t we the SB we need.”

He’s no Shakespeare, or even Dr. Seuss, but it’s at least as good as “Spanglish.”

Something tells me the kids at Florida State aren’t getting the most out of their time inside the bricks. The dilemma seemed to be evident even on the field during Florida State’s “meet your cell mate” session at the swamp a few weeks back…
