For over half a century “Purdue Pete” and his over-sized face have been seen pacing the sidelines at Ross-Ade Stadium rallying for cheers with his patented hard hat and hammer. Well this summer Pete will go under the knife as he’s been deemed “too scary” for children (wasn’t enough to keep the NBA from masking Sam Cassell with a veil).

Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke had this to say of the change:

“Look, I’m the one who gets the phone calls from parents who say that big face scares their 3-year-old… It’s been 25 to 30 years since he got a makeover. At some point, the poor old guy has to come into the 21st century.”

That’s great Morgan, maybe we should get him a twitter page too.

The real problem here is Pete’s PR people…I mean the Duck that molested Sasha’s still waddling the sidelines!
