Ingram Wins Bama’s First Heisman

There wasn’t a dry-eye at the Nokia Theater Saturday night when Crimson Tide running back, Mark Ingram, accepted the 75th Heisman Trophy Award. Surprisingly, Ingram is the first Alabama player to win the award in the school’s rich history. Ingram gave an emotional, heart-felt acceptance speech and you couldn’t help but like the guy even more as a person.

There was a lot of hype going into the evening for Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska’s Hulk-like defensive tackle, but it wasn’t meant to be for the Oregon native. Nor was it Colt McCoy or Toby Gerhart’s night either. Although I will say that McCoy is a sure-fire, future College Football Hall of Fame inductee and Gerhart is probably the Scholar Athlete of the Year (21 credits at Stanford during football season!!!) And of course, lowly Tim Tebow will have to settle for college football immortality only winning two BCS National Championships and one Heisman Trophy.

Now that all the tears have dried up we’re looking forward to Alabama vs. Texas in the BCS Championship Game. I don’t know whether or not Ingram winning the Heisman will have an effect on the game, but I’m pretty sure General Saban will make sure that doesn’t happen. I’ve got the Tide in a close one.
