* UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar gave a live interview via satellite on SportsCenter yesterday to discuss his return to MMA. Brock was smooth as sandpaper while explaining he is healthy and will be making his second title defense in the summer of 2010. He also babbled on about how America’s health care system is not in need of reforming (says the millionaire). He is set to face the winner of the Shane Carwin vs Frank Mir bout, which for some (pay-per-view peddling) reason will remain an interim championship match.

* A judge has decided Mike Leach has enough cause to continue his suit against Texas Tech. Allegations include a violation of the Texas’ Whistleblower Act, a breach of contract and libel and slander. It also seems ESPN’s coverage has been slightly biased in the way of their color man, Craig James, father of allegedly “abused” athlete Adam James. The kid took something that should have been resolved in-house and created a media circus out of it, all because of this horrifying victimization.

* Forward for the Boston Celtics, Rasheed Wallace, was fined $35,000 yesterday for public remarks he made about officials in Mondays game against the Mavericks. Excerpt from ESPN’s coverage on Rasheed’s remarks:

“[The officials] don’t like tough defense on [Dirk Nowitzki], so, of course, I get a whole lot of [expletive] calls,” Wallace said after Monday’s game in which foul trouble limited his minutes. “That’s how the story goes, I’m not worried about it. We’ll see them again.”

The Mavericks made a late third-quarter run with Wallace sidelined with four fouls. Asked if he thought that was the difference in the game, Wallace added, “Actually, I honestly can’t remember which one the fourth foul was, there was so many bogus [calls], but I’m not worried about it.”

Oh Rasheed, you’re [expletive] crazy! I for one believe that public scrutiny is the greatest accountability for refs. You get a call wrong in Philadelphia you better be ready for some death threats. Makes you think twice about blowing that whistle.
