Another Reason Politicans Suck

Author: Stretch

(Orrin Hatch has his magic underwear in a bundle)

Last Thursday I wrote a post titled, The “Obama Curse” that touched on the President’s foray into college sports. Obama phoned the Kentucky Basketball team thanking them for raising money for Haiti and then told them he was looking forward to seeing them in the National Championship game.

Kentucky lost that night in an upset at South Carolina, which was their fits loss of the season.

I also did a post earlier this year called “Boise State is Second Class.” The post was meant to draw distinction between 2nd tier teams like Boise State and TCU and 1st tier teams like Alabama and Texas. Simply put, going undefeated in the WAC is not the same as going undefeated in the SEC.

Last Friday, the Obama Administration sent a letter to Senator Orrin Hatch, acknowledging his request for the Justice Dept. to review the BCS format as it relates to anti-trust laws. Hatch, a Republican Senator from Utah, has argued it’s not fair that teams like Boise State don’t get an opportunity to play for the National Championship, and that the BCS should implement a playoff system.

In the letter to Hatch, Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich wrote, “Importantly, and in addition, the administration also is exploring other options that might be available to address concerns with the college football postseason. The administration shares your belief that the current lack of a college football national championship playoff with respect to the highest division of college football … raises important questions affecting millions of fans, colleges and universities, players and other interested parties.”

Are they being serious, or is Washington just fucking with us?

The fact that politicians would spend a nano-second thinking about college sports pisses me off. We are at war with terrorists, our health-care system is in shambles, over 17 million Americans suffer from hunger and our economy is on the brink of collapse.

Do they think the 1 in 10 unemployed Americans give a shit about Boise State not getting into the BCS Championship game?

While people are struggling to feed their families, politicians like Orrin Hatch are spending time trying to force the BCS to implement a playoff system. Keep in mind, we’re paying these assholes salaries, and instead of fixing the real problems we have, they pursue issues that fulfill their own self interest. Obviously Hatch is trying to appease the voter-base in Utah by “fighting” for Boise State and the rest of the WAC Conference. What an asshole.

The WAC received $7.8 million for Boise State’s appearance in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl this year. Cry me a fucking river Orrin.

Personally, I would like to see a college football playoff, but I don’t want politicians getting involved. Like anything else politicians get their hands in, they will find a way to fuck it up. I want the NCAA and the BCS to work with schools and coaches to figure out how to make a playoff a reality. I don’t want bitter old farts like Orrin Hatch using the Justice Dept. to fight the BCS for the benefit of his campaign.

I hope there is an unemployed construction worker out there  somewhere who will give Orrin Hatch what he deserves, a giant “magic underwear” wedgie.

Boise State is not in Utah, so defending Boise State does not really affect Hatch’s voter base. Except that University of Utah would benefit by defending Boise State. Otherwise I agree with you 100%. Those jackasses in Washington need to pay attention to the many more serious problems we have in our country rather than the effect a payoff may have with the millions that goes into bowl games and such.

Thanks for the comments Jerseygirl… we’re aware that Boise is part of Idaho, but when you’re talking about Utah, Idaho, Montana, etc it all sort of blends together for me! Bottom-line: I agree 100% with your feelings and hopefully you can help spread the word!!!

    PS – that’s kind of a hot nickname ; )

  3. I have seen some crappy posts but this one really impresses me. Good work!

  5. I can’t wait to read another of your posts. I am hoping you continue to add such great information for your readers to take in and act on. Thanks for sharing your revelations.

  6. Our major issue in this country is our two political parties. Our forefathers knew that a two party system would be our downfall and took steps to try to stop this type of politics, and thus anyone who seriously thinks that politics isn’t corrupt or slaves to Corporate America hasn’t not been paying attention. George Jr. will go down in History as one of the worst administrations in history and I could go on for hours showing why, but my point is that the Obama administration has offered nothing different (besides health reform, granted) and has in fact continued nearly every single Bush program. Obama has almost the same political donors and thus has the same pressures as Bush did. Health reform will turn out to be the most expensive and destructive waste of tax payer money ever. I just wish I could offer a better alternative for other frustrated people, but I can’t and those that think that the tea partiers are the future, remember that Sarah Palin is an important figure to them.

  7. I must say, I enjoy this site. Maybe you could tell me how I can subscribing with it? I feel I should let you know I found this blog through Aol.
