3 New NCAA Football Rules for 2011

Author: Junior

Last Thursday the NCAA’s playing rules oversight panel continued to water-down the sport of football with three new rule changes, two of which have nothing to do with the play between whistles. Sensibly, they eliminated wedge blocks on kickoffs in an attempt to reduce the number of concussions. Fair enough, concussions are a hot topic and eventually some angry group of moms was gonna make an organization trying to convince us every kid that puts on a football helmet ends up wearing grown-up diapers and drooling on themselves. Maybe this keeps the barking dogs at bay for a bit. The other rules, however, are sure to have football purists pissing vinegar and writing their governors (or governator, depending on your location) .

The less controversial of the arbitrary rule changes bans players from writing on their eye black (like this d-bag). I personally never ran to my Bible to check out what verse Tim Tebow had on his face, but I also don’t see any problem with it. Nor should a guy like Reggie Bush not be allowed to express his hometown pride as he did by writing his area code, “619,” on his eye black. As long as these kids aren’t writing “I fucked your retarded sister” (FYH…) I don’t see a reason we should have the refs playing fashion police.

The rule that’s really going to piss off fans is the panels’ decision to make taunting calls a spot-foul. This means if a guy breaks open a big play and high-steps into the endzone the touchdown will be called back, the points will come off the board and they’ll have their next down 15 yards back from the spot of the “foul.” Here’s what executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, Grant Teaff, had to say in attempt to justify the change:

“I think one of the reasons it’s been looked at is that when a penalty occurs on the field, it’s normally taken from the spot. This was the only occurrence that it wasn’t taken from the spot, so they wanted to change that.”

Thanks for clearing that up Grant… I always assumed it was the “only occurrence that it wasn’t taken from the spot” because it’s the only penalty that has no effect on the outcome of the play.

What do you think about the rule changes Bore Nation? Let us know in the comments section below!

total horseshit. how can you take a touchdown away for pointing the ball at the other team or running backwards into the endzone ala boston. they are changing the game! i want to t.p. the panel members houses

  2. Two things:

First, I have a mild case of down-syndrome so I don’t appreciate the retarded aspect of the “I fucked your RETARDED sister”. I am retarded and I have to live with stumbling through words, farting excessively and inadvertently in public places, lack of coordination, and falling over randomly, EVERY DAY! If this site is going to promote retardation, then I’m out of here.

Second, this new spot foul penalty for celebration is the most retarded (lol) thing ever. This penalty can severly change games and it has an inverse relationship to talent. The more talent you have, usually, the more cocky you are i.e. you’ll celebrate more. The most talented teams to should win and this is going to work against that. Please college football, don’t turn into the NFL (No Fun League).

    Sincerely,
    For all the ‘tards

damn, all those rules are retarded. if you dont want a concussion, dont play football. if you want to right on your eye black strip then so be it, this is AMERICA after all —freedom of expression, lastly the taunting rule is retarded as well. who gives a shit. if the defense doesnt want to be taunted, then dont let him get far enough in front of you that he can get away with such a thing. if you dont like it, stop it.

  6. thankyou lots, I am obliged to announce that your site is brilliant!

  7. I have been away from the loop with football too long. I loved it as a youngster, growing up. Being from Texas, it was always the Cowboys. Back then, the heroes were Roger Staubach and Tom Landry. Later on, after relocating to California, I found myself on occasion rooting for John Brodie of the 49ers, but it was always Cowboys as soon as two came head-to-head. At this moment, I’m retired. The stresses of work deadlines, personal initiatives and endless errands have diminished. And I wax nostalgically for the gridiron as well as the pleasure of the contest. Yes, I will be watching a lot more football. You may bet on it.
