Conference championship weekend wrapped up today and the NCAA bracket is officially set. No surprise that Kansas was the #1 overall seed, followed by #2 Kentucky, #3 Duke and #4 Syracuse.
West Virginia, who won the Big East Tournament last night, and Ohio State, had good arguments for being #1 seeds, but Duke and Syracuse ended up getting the nod. I don’t believe there is much difference between a 1 and 2 seed, but the fact that Duke played in arguably the 4th best conference this year and Syracuse lost their last two games, including a first round exit from the Big East Tournament, you are allowed to bitch if you’re from West Virginia or Ohio.
I believe Kansas is the #1 overall team without question, but I believe this Tournament is still wide open. I can’t remember a year when the NCAA had so much parity, which should set the table for some great early-round upsets. With that said, I wouldn’t be shocked to see a Kansas vs. Kentucky final.
I remember 2008 when Kansas played Memphis in one the best NCAA Championship games in recent memory. Kansas was loaded with veteran talent, and Memphis was basically an NBA team with a college uniform. Obviously Bill Self got the best of John Calipari in that matchup, so a rematch would be intriguing.
Get your brackets and excuses ready because play starts Thursday afternoon on CBS!
